Hearts of Fire picks right up after Essie and Aiden have slept together. Afterwards, Essie panics and shoots out of Aiden’s house. For the past 5 years, keeping track of him and planning on bringing him down has been her sole focus, but now things are more complicated. Aiden has been taking care of Essie from afar also. After avoiding Aiden, he finally gives her no choice but to go on date with him. Both Aiden and Essie are confused by their feelings but Aiden comes to term with his feelings long before Essie does. Essie runs off to think; Aiden gives her this but eventually his patience wears out and he goes to find her and confess his feelings.
I will admit, that I have not read the first book in this series. It took me a while to establish what was going on. After I finally figured out the foundation of what started in Heart’s Revenge, the book was okay. The writing was solid but I thought it was lacking…it went on for quite a while; “Are they going to be together or not?” After a while of this back-and-forth, I just wanted them to decide and move on.
