BREAKING NEWS: The Bad Boy of Baseball, Maddox Paige, is totally and utterly whipped.
Okay, that might not be the headlines in the newspaper this morning, but it's the reality of my current situation.
It all started a month ago when I received a call from my best friend, Kinsley. She got a new job in Chicago and needed a place to stay. I've known the girl since I was five, what harm would it be to have her stay at my place for a while?
Ha! Total disaster.
Now instead of going out every night with my teammates, I'm couch surfing and sketching endless photos of my best friend . . . but that's the least of my concerns.
The disaster, you ask? I'm rapidly falling head over cleats in love with my best friend, my roommate, and my number one fan.
And she has no idea . . .
If you have read any of the books in this series, you might remember the bad-boy of baseball mentioned......Maddox Paige, pitcher for the Rebels. The first one off the mound or out of the dug out to join in a fight on-field. Maddox gets to redeem himself in the lasted book in Meghan Quinn's series, The Change Up.
Maddox and Kinsley have been best-friends since they were 5 years old. Kinsley was there to support and provide a safe place to stay for Maddox growing up to escape his abusive father. They know everything about each other. Now adults, and busy with their lives, they have a set phone call date each month to catch-up. Kinsley mentions that she has an opportunity for a job in Chicago, which will put her in the same city as Maddox, but doesn't think she can afford to actually live there. Maddox suggests she move in with him and soon his orderly , "neat" life is turned up-side down. With Kinsley living with him, he finds himself becoming more environmental friendly thanks to Kinsley's help, the "father" to a three-legged hound, and last finding his feelings for Kinsley have changed from friendly to wanting wanting to be more than friends. He is unsure what she feels and tries to find ways to check out how she reacts.
It was interesting to actually get to know Maddox on a personal level and discover that he has a kind heart and is caring for those he is close too; especially when it came to Kinsley. I really liked Kinsley's character because she knew Maddox so well, she could call him on his crap when he needed it. She was strong and resilient when she needed to be. She was also a crier, so I could personally relate to that. As an animal lover, I loved that Kinsley's job was to find homes for animals and how supportive Maddox and his team mates were.
