What do you do when you find out your perfect world is Perfectly Broken?
Where has author Maegan Able been hiding? She has written one of the most powerful series I have read in a long time. Perfectly Broken is the first book of the Broken Series by Maegan Able. The whole series revolves around two main characters; Lili and Zane. Zane moved in with his older brother when he was going through a divorce. Lili was already roommates with his brother. Since moving in, Lili has broken through Zane’s wall and they have developed into good friends. They like to go hang-put together, talk, as well as take care of one-another. The only thing that remotely is wrong in their relationship is Zane’s ex-wife, Lizzie. Lizzie hates Lili (she can see what is hinted out throughout the book as Zane and Lili’s relationship becoming more than just friends). Unfortunately, Zane still has to deal with Lizzie because their share a young son together. When Zane’s son was two year old, he found out that he was not his biological father; in fact, his son’s biological father was his ex-best friend Adam. Zane still has a relationship with his son, but Adam is constantly holding it over Zane’s head that he is going to revoke Zane’s custody.
There are a lot of obstacles that the characters must deal-with and try to overcome in Perfectly Broken but that is what I feel makes it such a good book. Able’s characters are dynamic and stunningly written. I became immediately invested in the both the story and characters. I found myself not wanting to put down my book because I wanted to see where Lili’s and Zane’s relationship was going to take them next. The characters where realistic. They became human by making mistakes and not being perfect. (Zane’s mishandling of his ex-wife & sleeping with random women to avoid relationships; Lili shooting her mouth off or her temper taking off like a rocket). It takes them both while to realize that they are perfect for each other, especially since they already care so much about each other. I loved this book and was happy I had the next book of the series to begin reading immediately.
THIS IS A MUST CLICK BOOK!
It took a near-tragedy for Zane and Lili to admit their feelings for one another. If they could survive that explosion, wading through the debris left behind should be a breeze, right?
Lili has spent years hiding from her past. Now, she's being forced to admit her mistakes and make a decision. Can she conquer her demons head-on, or will she remain by Zane's side while he fights his own?
Zane learned early in life that charm and deception are easier than hard truths. Sometimes, old habits die hard. When his past mistakes start making continuous reappearances, he is faced with some of the most crucial decisions he's ever made.
When you have secrets, they can rip ragged holes in the ties that bind even the strongest relationships.
What do you do when you realize you're unforgivably broken?
I found the second book of the Broken series, Unforgivably Broken just as good as the first book. It did not fall short on any drama, emotion, or suspense. Lili and Zane have finally found their way to each other after dealing with numerous obstacles. Lily has to decide is she is going to support Zane deal with his ex-wife, fight to continue to keep his son and give him a loving, stable environment in addition to dealing with herself and their relationship. Zane continues to work at keeping Lili’s emotional protection walls down by showing that he can be “her person” through anything either of them might endure and by being there to support her while having to relive an emotionally draining situation in front of the public form when she was younger. This incident also sheds a lot of light on why Lili is like she is now. While reading this book there were times I was so happy for Zane and Lili, times I wanted to knock both of them upside their heads, and times I was crying. Fortunately, both Zane and Lili redeemed themselves. Maegan Able is an incredible writer to produce such powerful emotional piece of writing. There are some HUGE(!!!) plot twist in Unforgivably Broken at the end; it does end in a cliffhanger so be warned! I am holding my breath until book three comes out.
*I don’t feel you can appreciate Unforgivably Broken, Book 2 without first reading Perfectly Broken, Book 1. Besides, it is such a phenomenal book, you wouldn’t not want to read it.
Broken Holidays, #2.5 is a novella that tells the story of when Zane first moves in with his older brother and Lili right after his divorce. This sheds light on the period of time that Zane was pretty much sleeping with any willing female he came in contact with. We also see how Lili and Zane’s friendship begins and how they take care of each other during this time period of little over a year. This novella explains Lili and Tony’s relationship which is mentioned in the previous books but that is about it. We also learn how Lili came to live with Tish as well as how Tish and his girlfriend’s relationship begins. Overall, the novella explains why the characters are the way they are. It adds the “meat” to some of the story lines or background information in Perfectly Broken and Unforgivably Broken. Maegen Able packs a big punch with the novella adding the specific juicy details of the characters I have fallen in love with from her Broken series.
Maegan despises writing about herself in the third person. She also hates touting her accomplishments like she thinks she’s really done anything special…
Now that we got that out of the way, I’ll tell you what you need to know. I was born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I went back to school in my late twenties and studied Stage Production Technology. I now work full-time in the alterations shop of a major department store and part-time backstage in the various theatres around the area.
I’ve been an avid reader from a very young age and the top goal on my list of things to accomplish in my life was to write and publish a book. During the summer of 2013, while working backstage on The Lion King, I read eleven books in four weeks. I read my first New Adult book and was introduced to a genre I felt I could totally relate to. The idea for Perfectly Broken and the character of Lili was born backstage during that time.
