Katy is the assistant to Richard Van Ryan, a successful, arrogant advertising executive. Thought she strongly dislikes Mr. Van Ryan, she needs her job to help pay for the care of her Aunt Penny who suffers from dementia. Richard becomes upset at his current job when he is passed-up for partner; he has his eyes set on the Gavin Firm to make his current boss mad but there is one thing that might hurt him….his playboy lifestyle. Richard soon devises a plan to show that he had changed in his personal life and he needs Katy to help him. Richard convinces Katherine, as he calls her, to pretend to be his finance. Their lie continues to grow but something else grows to-their feelings for each other.
This is the second book that I have read by Ms. Mooreland and I enjoyed it. Yes, it was a little predictable by the title alone but the chemistry she creates between Richard and Katherine is explosive. Even though Richard was a jerk and very unlikable at the beginning of the book, he soon became the man that most women wish for. His relationship with Aunt Penny was just beautiful as was the way he took care of Katherine when she needed him the most. The Contract is a feel-good romantic story with a HEA.
