It’s there that she spots a man washing blood from his hands in a stream. One moment she’s staring at the jagged scar on his face. The next, his hand is around her throat. But by some miracle, he lets her go.

Crimson River is book 5 in the Edens series featuring Lyla Eden. Lyla is happily living her life, running her coffee shop, and taking little time for herself. When her family finally convinces her to take some time off and enjoy herself, her hike becomes a nightmare when she is attacked. Enter Vance.... based on Lyla's description of her attacker, it sounds like the man Vance has been hunting for the past several years who out of the blue killed his wife and twin daughters. While working with Vance, Lyla finds herself thinking of other things than her recent attack and her thoughts revolve around the rugged police officer. Vance and Lyla know there is an expiration date on their time together but can't help falling for each other (unbeknownst to one another of course). Lyla and Vance find themselves ending their journey after they stumble upon the story and secrets Lyla's attacker has been keeping. Both return to their previous lives but miss each other terribly. There are so many obstacles in the way but can they find their way back to each other? Crimson River is a beautifully written story of survival and healing. Lyly must find a way to work past her attack and find a way to live with the information she finds out about her attacker and falling in love with someone she didn't expect to show up in her life. Vance is on a healing journey too. Betrayed by his good friend and his job, mourning the loss of loved ones that were like his family, and learning new truths about what he thought he saw but what was completely different behind closed doors. Devney does it again with her story that will pull you in and never let go. It's one I couldn't put down and was disappointed that the story ended.
