Surprise!
Want a thrilling, sexy romance which may or may not make you throw your kindle?
Go ahead and meet Gilbert Clark in The Body Painter…
The headline caught my attention.
“Hours are negotiable, pay is minimal, clothing absolutely forbidden.”
The second line piqued my curiosity.
“Able to hold your bladder and tongue, refrain from opinions or suggestions, and be the perfect living canvas.”
The third made me scowl.
“Other attributes required: non-ticklish, contortionist, and obedient. Must also enjoy being studied while naked in a crowd.”
The fourth made me shudder.
“Call or email ‘YOUR SKIN, HIS CANVAS’ if interested in applying.”
The final made my heart race.
I should’ve kept scrolling past the advertisement.
I should’ve applied for the boring receptionist job at minimum wage.
I should’ve clicked on any other job where I got to keep my clothes on.
But I didn’t.
I applied.
My interview is tomorrow…

MY REVIEW
The Body Painter was everything I hoped it would be. Pepper worked on this book for a long time; even deleting big chunks of the story, rewriting, and changing major components. The result was simply magnificent. I would wait forever for one of her books if it was anything like the Body Painter. Gil grew-up in a bad situation; a bad home life, no one that cares about him, never knowing when he might eat again. Olin’s life was similar although her parents projected a happy, healthy home, they didn’t really care one way or another about their daughter, often leaving her to fend for herself for long periods of time. Despite her upbringing, Olin was one of the most kind, thoughtful individuals on the planet. Eventually Gil and Olin’s life comes crashing together at high school. Starting out as friends and moving into more romantic feelings, both ended-up falling in love with each other. Gil never wanting to taint his pure hearted Olin, hasn’t kissed her or done much else besides holding her hand. He is protective and would stop at nothing to shield her from harm even if it meant sacrificing the love and happiness she brings him which sadly ends their relationship. Fast-forward several years later and by a chance meeting, Gil and Olin are brought back together. Gone is the 17 year boy Olin fell in love with and in his place is secretive, closed-off, sad but very talented artist Gil. Even with Gil repeatedly pushing her away Olin can’t stay away from him. Even though he tries himself to stop, Gil can’t get enough of Olin. Their chemistry is off the charts. Later when Olin shows-up at his house, a mysterious man leaving Gil’s tries to kidnap her. Gil now only has one thing on his mind-protecting Olin. Only thing though, Olin doesn’t know WHAT and WHO he is protecting her from. The whole story builds on the fact that Gil is keeping secrets that he refused to tell Olin about, making her mind wonder many different things including Gil being guilty of something she just can’t fathom him doing. This is where Pepper’s writing really shines. Creating Gil and Olin’s story around all this mystery and suspense but keeping the reader engaged as the story unfolds, wanting more and more and more until we are as obsessed as Olin trying to figure out exactly what Gil’s problem is. I am holding my breath and planning to put life on hold as soon as book 2 comes so I can devour it.
