Instead of You was an emotional journey to say the least. As a reader, I felt McKenzie’s loss, the pain the Hayes’s mother felt as well as the pain McKenzie’s mom was feeling “losing” her best-friend to depression and grief. Everyone was just trying to survive. Micheals’s story not only told a sad situation but also showed how the characters eventually began to heal and move on. By the end of the book, I was crying and Micheals renewed my belief in the happily-ever-after before the book ended. Instead of You was a beautiful story and I would recommend it to anyone.
